General comments:
The jury had a difficult but enjoyable task in arriving at the final three winners. We were unanimous in finally choosing these three very different but equally promising projects.

Martina Walther- Alberta’s Treasures
The jury found this to be a sensitively conceived story of kindness and giving. The artwork is full of sensitively rendered anecdotal detail of the objects and people that inhabit Alberta’s ‘brocante’. The concept is well structured and developed and the author was clear and honest in explaining that the project had already found a publisher but that an award from the Foundation would make it possible for her to take the book to another level and to make it as good as it could possibly be.

Tereza Ričanová- Cow’s Book (Kravská kniha)
This project stood out immediately for the freewheeling, expressive and uninhibited artwork that is used to tell the reader about the real world of the cow, the history of the animal’s relationship with we humans and including all of the earthy, less romantic aspects of farm life. The book is assertive, confident and deals with important environmental issues. The jury felt that the award might be particularly helpful in allowing for the input of a strong graphic design input to give structure to the book without losing the anarchic ethos.

Michaela Kukovičová- Mrs Em Celebrates her Birthday (Paní Em Slaví Narozeniny)
This is a book full of charm, centred around the apartment where Mrs Em and her dog, Rocket live their daily life. It is the sensitive expression of the anecdotal detail of the comings and goings of life outside that make the book compelling, executed with a very personal quality of line. The jury hopes that this well-deserved award will help the artist to take the book further, into its planned three-colour rendering, without losing the very individual quality of the line-drawing.
